Dr Teodoro C. Mendoza

Dr. Teodoro C. Mendoza is a Professor of Crop Science at the Institute of Crop Science, College of Agriculture ,UPLB .Dr. Mendoza finished both his B. Sc. Agriculture (major in Plant Breeding, April 1977) and M. Sc. In Agronomy (Crop Physiology, October 1979). He finished his Ph.D. degree in Agronomy(1985) on a Doctoral enrichment at the University of Florida , Ga. Fl. He instituted courses in Farming systems and Ecological agriculture which are now taken by all students in Agriculture and as elective course for forestry, economics, food science and nutrition students. He is now developing a course on energetics of crop agriculture .

Dr. Mendoza had published 23 papers in ISI journal and 36 in Non-ISI but refereed journal and over 100 papers presented in conferences locally and abroad. He is scientist awardee of the UP science productivity program for 2 consecutive periods ( 2006-2008,2009-2012), International Publication Awardee given by the President, University of the Philippines for 9 Consecutive Year s (2001-2009) and the Fr.NeriSatur Award for Environmental Heroism given by the National Climate Change Commission) in May 2010 .For the last 3 decades, he is an advocate and a practitioner organic farming. As recognition to his field of research, he was invited as Plenary Speaker at the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) held at Victoria, Canada in August ,2002. He had delivered many lectures during the past years on Climate Change and Food Security and involved in many seminars / trainings on ecologically sustainable agriculture, biofuel. His current research involvement includes breeding low fertilizer input/ drought tolerant sugarcane cultivars, selecting /identifying seeds for biodiverse farming and developing crop management systems and practices adapted to small scale agriculture which are climate change-compliant and less oil-based energy requiring.
